Wheel Alignments

A wheel alignment is one of those important but often-neglected regular maintenance requirement for your vehicle.

Alignment is one of the key maintenance factors in getting the most wear and performance from your tyres. In addition, wheel alignment provides safe, predictable vehicle control as well as a smooth and comfortable ride. Today’s modern suspensions require a precise four-wheel alignment that can only be achieved through a modern alignment system. This applies to both front and rear wheel drive vehicles.

Aligning a car or truck involves the adjustment of the vehicle’s suspension not the tyres and wheels. The direction and the angles that the tyres point in after the alignment is complete are critically important. There are five factors involved in setting the alignment to specification: caster, camber, toe, thrust and ride height.Wheel Alignment

Rotate & Balance

A rotate and balance should be performed every 10,000 kilometres.

Regular tyre rotations are recommended to maximise tyre life. Most vehicle manufacturers recommend tyre rotations in the vehicle owner’s handbook and / or as part of regular service. Unbalanced wheels cause annoying steering wheel vibrations and increased fuel consumption.

Wheel balance is essential for safe driving. Only perfectly balanced wheels will give you the assurance that you can keep control of your vehicle even when things get critical. Improperly balanced wheels reduce road holding ability and also increase wear of shock absorbers, struts, suspension and chassis components.

Tyre rotations are also an opportunity for us to adjust tyre inflation pressures, as well as inspect the tyres for irregular wear that may indicate that wheel alignment needs adjustment and / or suspension components need careful inspection for wear.

Rotations are recommended for non-directional and asymmetric tyres, as shown below. This is our preferred method of rotation due to the fact that all tyres end up in every position on the vehicle depending on tyre longevity.

Tyres with directional tread patterns should be rotated from the front to the rear axle only. Rotating directional tyres diagonally will reverse the direction of rotation, which should be avoided. Reversing the direction of rotation of directional tyres reduces the tyre’s resistance to aquaplaning.
